Lighting

Chiaroscuro – our favourite technique

To emphasise the film noir look, we had to carefully consider how we were going to use lighting. We wanted to create lots of shadows, with low key lighting which expose hard lighting around the face of our protagonist – a technique called Chiaroscuro reminiscent of the old 1940’s style. Nonetheless, whilst filming we decided to shut out all the light that was being reflected into the room we were currently filming in and chose are source of light to be generated from our HD camcorder, which would generate shadows around our character.

After Effects

This is such as a revolutionary product because if our scene was in clear daylight, we were still able to create shadows using the software effects Levels and Hue and Saturation.
